Everything Out of Something

But not at once—

Slow, almost a distraction,
like the sudden flick of bird from thicket.

Its thinness has a porcelain
finish to it, making even the light shy.

Somewhere an edge you might pry
loose, but I’m afraid it’s too

thin for that, gone too far.
I’ve been watching a long time

and still can’t name it.
Walk with me, and I’ll show you

a place of no boundaries, hungry
for everything.
